Energy Audits in Food Companies

In the context of the development of the software tool that will enable the reliable determination & evaluation of the CF of food products, the FOODPRINT consortium performs a large scale demonstration, through energy audits in 6 food industries in Greece (4) and Italy (2) aiming:

  • to evaluate the CF of their products along the supply chain
  • to identify the Carbon hotspots contributing in raising the CF of products along the value chain
  • to make proposal for the reduction of the energy and carbon footprint for each of the companies and their products.

BROKERAGE EVENT 2016

Research & Innovation: The Key to Development


The Brokerage event on "Research & Innovation: The Key to Development" was successfully held on November 10, 2016, in Thessaloniki organized by the Federation of Hellenic Food Industries and the Hellenic Technology Platform "Food for Life" under the European FOODPRINT project. Northern Greece is particularly important for the Food Sector having an active research and business community, demonstrated by the increased participation of both communities in the event.

FOODPRINT Project at ECOTROPHELIA Greece Contest

The ECOTROPHELIA GREECE competition for creating eco-innovative food products is organized since 2011. It aims both to support students engaged in food science and to become a hotbed of innovative ideas for the Food Industry promoting the entrepreneurship and competitiveness. Furthermore, ECOTROPHELIA achieves the goal of bringing together students, teachers, researchers and professionals of the food sector in a network to think about tomorrow’s eco-innovative food products.

FOODPRINT Project at FOOD EXPO 2016 “3rd FOOD & BEVERAGE EXHIBITION”

FOOD EXPO GREECE is the leading regional international Food & Beverage Exhibition in Southeastern Europe which held on from 19th up to 21st of March 2016! The 35,000 m² of space, the 970 exhibitors, the 55,000 Greek trade visitors, as well as the extensive turnout of thousands of important international buyers from 59 countries at the 3rd FOOD EXPO GREECE, which took place in March 2016, more than demonstrated the success of the exhibition. The 3rd FOOD EXPO GREECE had been set under the auspices of SEVT.

FOODPRINT Project at the 29th EFFoST International Conference

“Food Science Research and Innovation: Delivering sustainable solutions to the global economy and society”

In the context of the 29th EFFoST International Conference held in Athens, Greece from 10-12 November 2015 under the theme: Food Science Research and Innovation: Delivering sustainable solutions to the global economy and society, SEVT organized various activities in order to disseminate FOODPRINT project. The Conference was organized by the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) on behalf of the European Federation of Food Science and Technology (EFFoST) and it provided a forum for the broader spectrum of food science research and innovation and will serve as a meeting point for an International audience of researchers, scientists, engineers, policy makers, professionals and students.

Exhibition DETROP 2015

The Company “KONTZOGLOU BROS DISTRIBUTION NETS” participated in the exhibition DETROP 2015, during which a series of actions for the diffusion of FOODPRINT project were developed. More specifically, the noticeboard of the project was displayed at the company's post and informative flayers regarding the project's aims and goals were printed and distributed to both exhibitors and visitors. It is important to mention the public's great interest and response towards the FOODPRINT project and the effort to implement a platform for the assessment of products' life cycle.

On-site audits in JOTIS S.A facilities

A joined scientific team with members from the UEST NTUA and JOTIS S.A. are declared responsible for the performance of a series of on-site audits in JOTIS S.A facilities. Main target of these audits is the better understanding of the production lines' functionallity, along with the identification and recording of all hot spots of CO2emission sources. Secondary target is gathering of technical information, in order to prepare suitable questionnaires for data collecting and further analysis.

EUROPEAN PROJECT LIFE+ FOODPRINT: An initiative of the Food Sector for the protection of the environment.

The kick-off meeting of the LIFE+ FOODPRINT project "Development of an integrated strategy for reducing the carbon footprint in the food industry sector" took place on Wednesday September 24th at SEVT premises.

The project focuses on the development of strategies and tools for the reduction of the carbon footprint, taking into consideration the entire food supply chain, from raw material production to the consumer, contributing on one hand to the protection of the environment and on the other hand to the increase of the sector's sustainability by saving energy and resources.

Objective

The main objective of the LIFE FOODPRINT project is to identify, quantify and implement measures to reduce, the carbon footprint (CF) of the pastry and flour food industry sector along the supply chain while increasing competitiveness through the development of an innovative software tool.
