Biochem S.A. is a Greek family owned technical and constructional company, founded in 1982 and its facilities are based in Thessaloniki.

For 30 years Biochem S.A. provides cost-effective and reliable products, solutions and services at the following sectors:

Biochem S.A. designs, constructs & operates wastewater treatment plants and has constructed installations for a population of more than 2 million person equivalents. Also, it designs and manufactures special mechanical equipment in order to deal with a wide range of difficult industrial wastes, from oil plants, slaughterhouses etc, or for recycling water from car wash stations. In recent years it is also engaged with reclamation of byproducts from wastewater with high organic load. In order to achieve that Biochem S.A. has constructed plants in order to regain byproducts, such as:

-Milk proteins and lactose from whey of cheese factories

-Olive oil from wastewater of olive press wastewater

-Animal fats and high thermogenic power solids, from blood and solid wastes of slaughterhouses

Furthermore, Biochem S.A. provides reliable and efficient solutions of water treatment for potable or industrial application, such as filtering, disinfection, desalination, membrane filtering systems and special treatments for removal of heavy metals and harmful substances.

Since 1984, Biochem S.A. assemble generating sets as emergency or prime energy source.

In recent years is engaged with renewable energy systems and has constructed two big hydroelectric plants 1MW and 1,5MW.

Also, it has an active presence in energy recovery from aerial and liquid phase through new generation heat pumps and heat exchangers, offering incredible economy (60-80%) of energy, in air conditioning and hot water production, for industrial or building application.

Objective

The main objective of the LIFE FOODPRINT project is to identify, quantify and implement measures to reduce, the carbon footprint (CF) of the pastry and flour food industry sector along the supply chain while increasing competitiveness through the development of an innovative software tool.
